After nearly two decades of rewriting the rules of underground festivals, SUNWAVES is broadening its horizons this summer. The Romanian-born festival is heading to the only place that makes sense outside of its new flagship home: Ibiza. The cult Romanian-born brand will land at Playa Soleil for a twelve-date Wednesday residency that has the potential to become one of the season’s most essential parties. Running from 17 June to 19 August, before returning on two dates in September and closing on 7 October, SUNWAVES brings its undeniable rawness to Playa d'en Bossa without watering down the recipe that made it legendary in the first place. That means long sets, serious sound systems, no hyperbole and a dancefloor full of people who are genuinely there for the music. Phones? Forget about it. Since launching in 2007 as an antidote to over-commercialised festival circuit, SUNWAVES has built a fiercely loyal global following rooted in authenticity, community value and a very specific sonic identity, with all kinds of production thrown out the window.
