SBD presents Andrea von Kampen Saturday August 22nd Andrea von Kampen is a Nebraska-based singer-songwriter whose music blends intimate storytelling, poetic lyricism, and warm acoustic arrangements. Rooted in the landscapes of the Great Plains, her songs explore connection—to the natural world, to one another, and to the quiet moments that shape us. With over 60 million Spotify streams, releases on Fantasy Records, and appearances at some of the most respected folk and Americana festivals, von Kampen has built a devoted global following. Her national breakthrough came early, earning a Top 10 NPR Tiny Desk shout-out in 2016, which introduced her thoughtful songwriting to a wider audience. In 2019, she self-released her debut full-length album, Old Country, a collection of reflective folk songs that found success on Spotify and among indie bloggers, establishing her as an emerging voice in the contemporary folk scene. In 2021, von Kampen signed with Fantasy Records and released her sophomore album, That Spell, further refining her lyrical and melodic sensibilities. The record expanded her reach and led to extensive touring and festival appearances. The following year, she made her acting and film debut starring in the independent feature A Chance Encounter, distributed by Samuel Goldwyn. Von Kampen also wrote and recorded the film’s soundtrack, released via Fantasy Records, showcasing her ability to translate narrative storytelling across mediums. Her third full-length album, Sister Moon, was self-released in 2024 and marked a deeply personal and artistic evolution. Inspired in part by the writing of Richard Powers, the album explores themes of climate change, environmental stewardship, and humanity’s relationship to the earth. Von Kampen’s 2025 EP, Before I Buy a Gun, protests the resurgence of hateful rhetoric in American politics, offering an urgent yet hopeful collection of songs calling for justice, solidarity, and compassion. In addition to her recorded work, Andrea von Kampen is widely recognized for her engaging live performances. Her shows are filled with storytelling, humor, and heartfelt connection, weaving personal anecdotes and reflections between songs to create a concert experience that feels intimate, welcoming, and deeply human. Von Kampen has performed at renowned festivals including Newport Folk Festival, Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, and the 30A Songwriter Festival. She has toured with a wide range of acclaimed artists such as The Tallest Man on Earth, Punch Brothers, Trampled by Turtles, The Wood Brothers, Watchhouse (fka Mandolin Orange), Darlingside, Avi Kaplan, Leif Vollebekk, and Tall Heights, while also headlining tours across North America and Europe. “A fine singer with guitar work reminiscent of the cult hero Nick Drake” - New York Times "Von Kampen’s deeply rooted plainsong is all too easily washed out in a digital era...the mindfulness of von Kampen’s craftsmanship is a lasting reward" - No Depression “Sister Moon finds von Kampen in a meditative and naturalistic mood…[it] feels equally earthen and spiritual, grounded in von Kampen’s intricate guitar work and elevated with her swooning melodies” - Under the Radar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz3ZYkW-uS4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_r3uI39kqM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAVLtUT5DP0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jNS244v760 https://www.facebook.com/avonkampen https://found.ee/AndreavonKampenInstagram https://found.ee/AndreavonKampenSpotify https://www.andreavonkampen.com Plus support from ROSS ALEXANDER II https://www.facebook.com/ross.a.hodgson @ The Black Prince 15 Abington Square, Northampton NN1 4AE Doors 7.30pm Tickets from https://www.skiddle.com/e/42321732/ The venue is 16+ [under 18s to be accompanied by a legal guardian] The multi-story St Michael's car park [entrance on St. Michael's Road, exit on Abington Square] is a 40 second walk from The Black Prince
